December Prayer Reflection 2019

“HE CAME TO BRING GOOD NEWS TO THE POOR.”

(Luke 4: 18.)

As we approach Christmas the media is appealing to us more and more to support many causes – the homeless, food banks, families struggling to buy presents for their children, lonely people especially those living alone, a little girl who wrote to Santa for a warm jacket and many more. We look, hear and read and sometimes feel helpless despite being reminded, “That every penny helps.”

Fortunately all does not depend on us because the media also brings heart-warming stories of the generosity, thoughtfulness and kindness of individuals, groups and organisations like the little boy, who asked for socks, scarves and gloves for the homeless instead of birthday presents, volunteers stacking the shelves of food banks, families inviting lonely neighbours to join them for their Christmas dinner, Pope Francis sitting down for a meal with poor people and many more.
“In the season of Advent we are called to expand the horizons of our hearts and to be amazed by the life which presents itself each day with newness,” Pope Francis.

(ANGELUS 27 November 2016)

Following our Foundress’ example of her great love for the disadvantaged and the vulnerable, may we during the weeks leading to Christmas hear ‘the cry of the poor’ and with the babe at Bethlehem aim to bring good news to those in our communities and our surrounding areas.
